Not every Glenpool attic needs spray foam. When the attic floor is open, easy to reach and free of major ductwork problems, blown-in insulation is usually the cheapest way to add a lot of R-value. It is also one of the most popular questions we get: what is the cheapest but most effective insulation?
Many Glenpool homes were finished with builder-grade blown insulation that has settled over the years, or that was pushed aside by cable installers and HVAC technicians. The result is thin spots over certain rooms and an attic that falls short of today's recommended levels.
We air seal the attic floor first, then blow fiberglass or cellulose to the target depth. Air sealing matters because insulation alone does not stop air leaks at wire holes, light fixtures and the attic hatch.
Glenpool tip
Ask for air sealing before blown-in goes down. Sealing gaps around wires, pipes and fixtures makes the new insulation far more effective.
When Blown-In Is the Right Choice
- ✓Attic floor insulation below the tops of the joists
- ✓Bare spots over certain rooms
- ✓No ductwork problems in the attic
- ✓A budget that rules out spray foam
- ✓Simple attic with good access
- ✓Rooms that are drafty in winter
Fiberglass or Cellulose?
Blown fiberglass is lightweight, does not absorb water and resists settling. It typically provides about R-2.2 to R-2.9 per inch, so R-38 takes roughly 13 to 17 inches.
Cellulose is made from recycled paper treated for fire and pests. It provides about R-3.2 to R-3.8 per inch and packs more densely, which helps it resist air movement. Either works well over an air-sealed attic floor.
